The LAYSL recreational program is the larger of the two portions of the Los Alamos youth soccer program, comprising about 80% of our approximately 800 registrants. Teams are formed in the Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 age groups. The U-06, U-08, U-16 and U-19 programs are coed only. Separate coed and girls-only programs are offered in the U-10, U-12 and U-14 age groups as long as sufficient girls-only registrations are received (and sufficient volunteers are found!) to field teams. The U-16 and U-19 coed programs are usually combined in order to place the small number of U-19 registrants.
The recreational program is informally---depending on team numbers each year---divided into two "neighborhoods," with the players from the townsite usually playing other Hill teams and the players from White Rock usually playing other White Rock teams. It doesn't always work out perfectly and occasionally a White Rock team will have to "travel" up the Hill to play a Hill team and vice versa but we try! The U-05 and U-06 teams conduct scrimmages during the week and do not have scheduled weekend games. The U-06 and U-08 age groups play within their own neighborhoods; all other teams play matches between neighborhoods. All recreational matches (U-08 and older) are played on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings on County fields in Los Alamos and White Rock.
Recreational teams are finalized each season at the Coaches Meeting, which is held approximately 2 weeks before practices are allowed to begin. Coaches may begin to contact their player rosters after that meeting. See the Calendar page for the Coaches Meeting.
