The LAYSL recreational program is the larger of the two portions of the Los Alamos youth soccer program, comprising about 70% of our approximately 650 league members. Teams are formed in the Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14. All age groups are coed, while the U14 age group has an all girl team as well, if we have enough enrollment. Separate coed and girls-only programs are offered in all age groups as long as sufficient girls-only registrations are received (and sufficient volunteers are found!) to field teams. We try to keep costs to a minimum by reusing uniforms each year, as well as having volunteer coaches.
Everyone that is registered will be placed on a team depending on location. Kids will be placed on White Rock and Los Alamos teams first, and then depending on the numbers, they will be placed on teams based on which school they attend. We do our best to honor requests based on practice days and coach, but in the end, the coach will decide their practice days and attempts to keep team sizes equal may affect where kids are placed.
U8 and up practice twice a week and then play a game on Friday evening or Saturday morning. The U6 teams conduct scrimmages during the week and do not have scheduled weekend games. The focus of this program is to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to explore soccer, and learn life skills. Coaches will do their best on getting players equal playing time assuming that team rules are followed.
Recreational teams are finalized each season at the Coaches Meeting, which is held approximately 2 weeks before practices are allowed to begin. Coaches may begin to contact their rosters after that meeting.
