Boys and Girls U11 thru U18 teams

Please contact Michael Brown here for more information.

The LAYSL competitive program is the natural progression for players that want to test their skills at the highest level in New Mexico. It is for kids U11 and above. Along with this increased level of play, comes a larger commitment from players and parents alike. The competitive program emphasizes player development over winning. Teams practice 2 or 3 times a week and play in the Duke City Soccer League.

Games are at the Bernalillo Soccer Complex on Saturdays against club teams from Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Farmington, Durango, and even El Paso. LAFC teams will often do a weekend tournament in the Fall season as well as another in the Spring.

Tryouts for the boys and girls U11 thru U14 teams are held a week or two after Mother's Day in May for the following Fall and Spring seasons. Note that there are U10 tournament team sign-up sessions these same weeks for a boys and girls team. Tryouts for the U15 thru U18 teams for the DCSL Spring season are held the week after the NM High School State Soccer Championship Tournament in November. The U11 and U12 teams play 8 vs. 8 and carry 14 players on a team, while U13 and above play 11 aside and can carry a maximum of 18 players on the roster. Playing time is up to the coach's discretion, but all players will play significant minutes in games. Attendance at practices, work ethic, stamina, attitude and playing ability are contributing factors in how playing time is decided. Our goal is to have players develop better individual and team skills in a positive coaching environment, but most importantly to have fun playing soccer while striving to improve.

Club Registration Fees

The 2015-2016 player fees are $275 for the U11-U14 teams that play in both the Spring and Fall seasons, while the fees are $225 for the High School age teams (U15-U18) that play in the DCSL in the Spring season only. These fees cover the cost of the Duke City Soccer League registration, league insurance, New Mexico Youth Soccer Association fees, equipment stipends for each team, operating costs for registering each player, as well as costs associated with lining fields, repairing or purchasing goals and nets, maintaining the LAYSL website, reimbursing coaches for obtaining coaching licenses, and helping to pay for the Academy training program. Additionally, teams will also be reimbursed up to $500 for tournaments in the Fall and/or Spring. A home and away uniform kit is purchased separately. For those in need, a limited number of soccer scholarships are available. Scholarship form here!

Age Group Table (2015-2016)

US Youth Soccer Federation has set the cut off date for the different age groups to be July 31. Yes, that is one month sooner than the cut off date for New Mexico schools. The table below shows the different age groups children would be in, depending on their birthday. To find what age group your child is, first find the year they were born on the left, then go across to the month.
